Process optimisation in Photobioreactors
Group Leader
Thorsten Heidorn
The design and construction of genetic modified organisms is just one step towards an efficient and sustainable biotechnological production process. In a bioreactor it is possible to control and measure most parameters and therefore to investigate and optimise the whole process.
Several photobioreactors exist in our group and one is fully computer controlled, including a computer controlled regulation of the inlet gas mixture and an automated on-line analysis of the exhaust gas by a gas chromatograph. With this system it is possible to investigate and optimise the hydrogen production process by wild-type and genetically engineered cyanobacteria and sulphur deprived green algae.
